Jennifer Lopez covers the August 2013 issue of W and she talks about her relationship with her mother, as well as her life as a mom to twins Max and Emme.
When she was growing up in the Bronx, J. Lo and her mom were sometimes at odds. She said, “My mom and I butted heads. I didn’t want to go to college—I wanted to try dance full-time. I was homeless. But I told her ‘This is what I have to do.’”
With her own children, she wants to show, rather than tell, in terms of shaping their upbringing. “I think a lot about teaching my kids to work hard,” she said. “I’ve learned something about kids— they don’t do what you say; they do what you do. I watched my parents.”
